Link WhatsApp to Your Website, Bio, and Business
A WhatsApp link opens a chat with your number as soon as someone taps it. No saving contacts, no copying digits, no typing mistakes. Our free WhatsApp link generator builds the link for you: enter your number, add a message if you want one, and copy the result.
If you’ve been wondering how to link WhatsApp to your website, your Instagram bio, or your online store, this is the simplest way to do it.
What is a WhatsApp link?
A WhatsApp link, also called a click-to-chat link or wa.me link, is a normal web address that opens a WhatsApp conversation. On a phone it opens the WhatsApp app. On a computer it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app. It works with personal accounts and WhatsApp Business accounts.
The basic format is:
https://wa.me/15551234567Add a message and it looks like this:
https://wa.me/15551234567?text=Hi%2C%20I%20want%20to%20book%20a%20tableHow to create a WhatsApp link
- Enter your phone number with the country code.
- Optional: type the message you want pre-filled in the chat.
- Copy your link, or open it to test it.
That’s it. The generator takes care of the formatting, including encoding your message so spaces and special characters don’t break the link.
WhatsApp link format: the rules
Most broken WhatsApp links come from a badly written number. The rules are short:
- Use the full international number, starting with the country code.
- Digits only. No plus sign, no spaces, no dashes, no brackets.
- Drop the zero at the start of the local number.
Wrong: https://wa.me/+1 (555) 123-4567 — Right: https://wa.me/15551234567
The message part, after ?text=, has to be URL-encoded, which is why a space becomes %20. You don’t need to do this by hand. The generator does it for you.
Where to use your WhatsApp link
- Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook bios. Replace “DM me for orders” with a link that opens WhatsApp directly.
- Your website. Add a “Chat on WhatsApp” button. The code is one line:
<a href="https://wa.me/15551234567?text=Hello">Chat on WhatsApp</a> - Email signatures. Give clients a faster way to reach you than writing back.
- Product pages and ads. Send people straight to a chat about that product.
- Printed material. Paste your link into any QR code maker and put the code on a flyer, menu, or shop window.
Pre-filled messages that get better replies
A pre-filled message saves your customer a step and tells you what they want before they say a word. A few examples:
- Product page: “Hi, I’m interested in the blue jacket. Is it still available?”
- Bookings: “Hi, I’d like to book an appointment this week.”
- Support: “Hi, I need help with my order.”
Keep it short, and write it the way a real customer would. Use a different message for each place you share the link, such as “Hi, I found you on Instagram.” That way you can tell where your chats come from.
Link WhatsApp to a device vs. create a WhatsApp link
People searching “link whatsapp” sometimes mean something different: connecting WhatsApp to another device. That’s done inside the app, under Settings, then Linked Devices. This tool does something else. It creates a link that other people can tap to start a chat with you.
Keep your number in mind
Anyone who opens your link can see the number it points to. If you don’t want your personal number out in public, create the link with a separate business number instead.
